On Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May 2026, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon weekend turns the Mother City into a mix of city marathon and mountain trail festival as it enters its decisive year as an Abbott World Marathon Majors candidate. Sunday’s flagship 42.2 km road marathon starts and finishes in the Green Point / stadium precinct, following a fast, predominantly flat paved course through Cape Town’s urban streets and along scenic waterfront sections designed for both PB-seekers and first-timers. The programme also includes 10 km and 5 km Peace Runs on fully paved roads around the city, offering shorter, accessible options with the same big-race atmosphere. In parallel, the integrated Table Mountain trail events — approximately 46 km, 22 km and 11 km — climb onto the slopes and ridges of Table Mountain National Park on rocky singletrack, jeep tracks and mountain paths, serving up technical terrain, significant elevation and sweeping views over the city and ocean. Together, the combination of fast city roads, iconic mountain trails and a sea-level coastal setting makes Cape Town one of the most distinctive marathon weekends on the global calendar.
