The Black Hills Veterans March and Marathon is a commemorative endurance event held in South Dakota, conceived in 2002 by members of the South Dakota National Guard. Paying tribute to the sacrifices of servicemen and women, the race offers participants a variety of challenges, including a full marathon and march over 42.2 km (26.2 miles) and a 25.7 km (16 miles) mini march. For the most extreme competitors, the event also features a grueling 177 km (110 miles) endurance march, all while traversing the beautiful and historic George S. Mickelson Trail.
