On 31 January 2026, Sun to Surf Run & Walk brings runners and walkers back to the beautiful bay of Ōhope for a summer event built around four distances: the FuelMe Half Marathon (21.1 km), Takutai 10 km, Sun FM Run & Walk 5 km, and The Wilde Whippet 1 km for kids. The half marathon starts near Port Ōhope and follows a largely flat, out-and-back coastal route along harbour-side paths and roads towards West End Ōhope Beach before returning to the wharf. The 10 km and 5 km use a mix of sealed roads, shared paths and small grassy or trail sections, staying close to the shoreline and keeping the terrain friendly for all abilities. With an event village by the water, live music, food and drink stalls and a relaxed beach vibe, it feels as much like a summer festival as a race. It’s designed for everyone from PB-chasers on the half marathon to families walking the shorter routes together.
