Established in memory of avid trail runner Steve Neary, the Hunua Hillbilly Ultramarathon offers runners an opportunity to test their endurance on a demanding 60km course. Starting and finishing at the Upper Mangatawhiri Campground, the race encompasses nearly every accessible track in the Hunua Ranges, including the ascent to Kohukohunui, Auckland's highest point at 688 meters. Beyond the ultramarathon, the event features a marathon and a 22km trail run/walk, catering to various fitness levels. The day concludes with the Hunua Hillbilly Hoedown, fostering camaraderie among participants.
