Race Across Wales 2026 is an epic 228 km ultra that traces the iconic Pilgrims Trail from the English border at Basingwerk Abbey all the way to St Hywyn’s Church in Aberdaron, on the western tip of the Llŷn Peninsula. Over the course of up to 50 hours, solo runners and team relays journey through a constantly changing landscape: green fields, deep valleys, moor and mountain slopes, forest tracks and long sections of wild coastline, accumulating around 6,300 m of ascent along the way. The route is fully marked via North Wales Pilgrims Way waymarks and supported by staffed aid stations with hot food, indoor rest zones and live GPS tracking, so athletes can focus on managing their effort and moving forward. Designed by the Beautifully Brutal team, the event aims to be both a harsh physical test and a journey through Welsh history, passing remnants of farming, quarrying and mining as well as prehistoric and religious sites before that final descent to the sea.
