South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge

Minehead, United Kingdom

Be the first Runna to sign up!

On Saturday 25 July 2026, the South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge invites challengers to tackle a one-day capital-free but coast-heavy adventure based around an extensive basecamp in the shadow of Dunster Castle in Somerset. The 50 km loop begins near Minehead, following the opening section of the famous 630-mile South West Coast Path with sea views across the Bristol Channel before turning inland through forests into the Exmoor National Park. Runners and walkers tackle a mix of coastal path, moorland, woodland tracks and farm trails, including a climb up Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor’s highest point, before returning to Dunster. Alongside the full loop, there are three different 25 km options plus a family-friendly 10 km, all fully supported with rest stops, route marking, and festival-style hospitality at basecamp. The combination of sharp climbs, rugged terrain and big coastal panoramas makes it one of the most dramatic mid-summer challenges in the Ultra Challenge series.

Races

The Dunster 10K is a family-friendly 10 km loop from Dunster Castle, Minehead on Saturday 25 July 2026, organised by Action Challenge / Ultra Challenge, tracing local trails and lanes around the castle for about 300 m of elevation gain and a short but punchy taste of the South West Coast 50 atmosphere.

The 1st Half 25 km Challenge (Dunster to Porlock) on Saturday 25 July 2026 is a point-to-point option from Dunster Castle to Porlock, organised by Action Challenge / Ultra Challenge, following the opening 25 km of the main loop along the coast and over Exmoor with about 600 m of climbing before finishing at the half-way rest stop.

Also on 25 July 2026, the 25 km Loop Challenge leaves and returns to Dunster Castle basecamp, a shorter circuit organised by Action Challenge that links Dunster and Minehead on coastal path and inland trails for roughly 25 km and ~600 m of ascent, giving a concentrated taste of the route.

The 2nd Half 25 km Challenge (Porlock to Dunster) on 25 July 2026 covers the back half of the 50 km course from Porlock back to Dunster Castle basecamp, a tougher section organised by Action Challenge that packs roughly 1,000 m of ascent over exposed moorland and cliff paths before dropping back to the finish.

On Saturday 25 July 2026, the 50 km Loop Challenge starts and finishes at the Ultra Challenge basecamp beneath Dunster Castle near Minehead, Somerset, UK, where Action Challenge / Ultra Challenge send walkers, joggers and runners on a full Exmoor loop along the South West Coast Path with over 1,600 m of climb and huge Bristol Channel views.
