On 4 April 2026, the Manx Mountain Marathon returns as one of the island’s toughest endurance tests, sending runners on a point-to-point journey from Market Square in Ramsey across the spine of the island to Port Erin. The full route covers almost 50 km with around 2,600 m of ascent, crossing the northern fells and summits including the Isle of Man’s highest peak, Snaefell, before dropping to St John’s, where the half mountain marathon (about 22 km, ~1,100 m climb) joins for the southern section. From there the course rolls over a chain of hills and ridges, finishing with steep climbs and spectacular coastal paths into Port Erin. Underfoot it’s predominantly mountain trails, grassy and rocky fell, and rough moorland, with only short bits of road; most of the route is unmarked so solid navigation skills are required. Steep climbs, exposed ridgelines and classic British fell-race atmosphere make it a serious challenge best suited to experienced off-road runners.
