Set for September 27, 2025, Run Richmond 16.19 is more than a race—it's a commemorative journey through Richmond’s historic landscape, marking key moments in African American history. Participants can choose between the 16.19K (10.06 miles) and 6.19K (3.85 miles) distances, both of which pass significant cultural and historical landmarks including Shockoe Bottom, the Emancipation and Freedom Monument, Jackson Ward, and the James River. A key feature is the optional immersive audio experience, narrated by actor and humanitarian Djimon Hounsou, which shares powerful stories along the route. The event culminates in a post-race celebration with live music, food trucks, vendor markets, and a “Living Museum” with actors portraying historical figures. Organized by the Djimon Hounsou Foundation, in collaboration with Sports Backers and the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia, the event blends athleticism with cultural education and unity.
